Numerous peaks, lakes, alpine meadows, valleys, caves, natural springs and canyons are a few of the destinations of the infinite hiking trails in and around Banff and Canmore.

With 22 million dollars in recent upgrades and the successful hosting of the 2006 World Cup Cross Country Ski Events, skiers will have some of the best amenities in the world for their recreational use.
A considerable number of groomed and ungroomed ski trails can be found throughout the various surrounding parks and wild areas, for those with a taste for the wilderness.

Backcountry Huts and Cabins are scattered throughout the backcountry and are widely used by the more adventurous, for both summer and winter outings. Backcountry alpine skiers often use these cabins as a base, or some just ski in to relax. For those who are all about the decent, many heli-skiing lodges are found a little deeper in the mountains, with luxury accommodation and perfect deep powder on a daily basis.
